Small trench to complete the excavation of the Mesolithic Flint / Settlement site. Last day at Cow Green excavation August 2018 - note the low water level in the reservoir after the last 3 months of hot weather!

In August 2015, when Altogether Archaeology was still part of the North Pennine AONB Partnership it concluded the first excavation at this site. Unfortunately on some days the weather during that week long excavation was far from summer-like. The time lost due to heavy rain could not be made up before we had to back-fill the trench. During the first week of August 2018, the now independent Altogether Archaeology returned to Cow Green to complete the excavation.

In 2015 the excavation was lead by Rob Young assisted by Paul Frodsham. In August 2018 Rob Young was similarly assisted by members of the 'Altogether Archaeology fieldwork team'.

The preliminary report of the 2015 dig can be downloaded from the Reports page on the menu bar. Rob will update the report in due course.
